Director Kirill Kashlikov doesn’t just show a scene

He opens a window into Carney’s world. And there’s no falsehood here. So, Director Kirill  Quinn Carney has a large family, lives a quiet life, works on a farm, and is preparing to harvest with his large family. Harvesting, for a moment, for export to Poland. Doesn’t anything remind you of that?

But the shadow of the past, in the form of his brother’s body found in the swamp, knocks on Carney’s door.

He opens a window into Carney’s world. And there’s no falsehood here:

But this is not a detective story or a family drama. Or rich people data rather, partly so. In fact, it’s a story about a choice: to Director Kirill  betray the past or risk the future. Family, duty, love, war — the lines that intertwine in this house, as well as our present.

The scene is a house. A half-destroyed roof, with light barely penetrating the space. On the one hand, a metaphor for inner stability, an attempt to preserve the family grain. On the other hand, the same Ukrainian houses that we see in the news after the next attacks.

Oleksandr Kobzar as Quinn is an image of stability and restraint. His struggle between the desire to protect his family and the pressure of the past is felt in every movement, in every line.

Stanislav Boklan as Muldoon is balancedly diabolical. His hero is not just an antagonist, but a walking metaphor for evil, which can be both gentle and deadly. And his view is not so easy to “read”: is evil and expectations of your consumers really always an external force, or can it be born within us. And here the question arises: what is more important – to fight for an idea that costs one’s life, or to find a way to survive by accepting a bloody compromise?

The sentimental scene – the baby in Muldoon’s arms, causes dissonance:

Trembling and dangerous feelings. It is as if the devil himself touches a pure soul, preparing to seduce it. This emotionally charged scene seems to ask us: can we maintain innocence, living in a world of evil.

And the ferryman himself, as a character, is not in the play. Physically not. But asb directory he exists on a conditional-conscious level. His route and goal are known to everyone – he is a guide of souls to the afterlife.
